After 12 months of ticket sales the draw took place on 16th December. Mrs Diane Carr from Walney was the absolutely delighted winner of the first prize a brand new Ford KA, and she accepted the vehicle’s keys from Linda Johnson of Alan Myerscough Ltd on Wednesday 21st December. Linda said the Ford dealership "was delighted to have been part of another successful fundraising campaign for St Mary’s".

Mrs Carr was overwhelmed when she heard that she had who won the prize in the draw. She said “I cannot believe it. I don’t normally win anything. I was just so excited. I am really shocked.”

St Mary’s will be holding another super draw in 2012. One lucky ticket holder will have the opportunity to win a brand new Ford KA or this year they have the chance to choose the cash alternative (cost price of the Ford KA). The draw will be launched in March and the winner will be announced on the 14th December.

St Mary’s lottery was established in 1998 to support the work of the hospice. The lottery currently has over 7,000 playing members and it has become a major source of sustainable funding for St Mary’s.

The lottery runs on a secure computer software programme specially designed for the purpose. Each new player is given a unique draw number, randomly generated by the computer. A draw takes place every Friday and the winners are randomly selected by the computer.
