About us

Key facts about St Mary’s Hospice

  • With your help, over the last 25 years we have been able to support more than 15,000 people in our local area
  • Around 51% of people return home from St Mary’s Hospice after receiving care
  • Only 20% of our funding comes from the local health services, the rest comes from donations from our generous community.
  • Our services are provided by outstanding Hospice employees and volunteers who continually go the extra mile to provide exceptional care and support
  • We help people with long term illness including lung, heart and neurological diseases and cancer and their families
  • We can care for nine patients at any one time all in single rooms in our inpatient unit.
  • Our new building hosts activities for people with long term illness. Currently we offer Day Hospice, Positive Living patient education and classes in Pilates, Tai Chi and Tregar.
  • St Mary’s Hospice at Home service has expanded to allow two teams to work in the community every day with the goal of supporting an extra 100 people over the coming 12 months
  • Our Community Neighbours scheme is expanding to offer help at home from Millom across to Kendal to offer a friendly face and a helping hand
  • We have charity shops in Ulverston, Millom, Barrow-in-Furness, Grange-over Sands, Dalton, and a furniture warehouse.
  • St Mary’s Hospice has its own beautiful Orangery café open to the public
