A Summer’s Afternoon of Art 22-Jul-2015
Thursday 20 August 2015 at 3.30pm at St Mary’s Hospice, Ulverston
Designs Unique Encaustic
We would cordially invite you to an afternoon exhibition of the exciting work of a young local Ulverston artist, Rebekah Claire Matthews.
Encaustic Art - is an ancient form of painting which uses melted beeswax to which pigments have been added. This technique was notably used in the
Fayum mummy portraits from Egypt around 100-300 AD. Today the wax is melted by the heat of the iron and transferred to special heat resistant card
where Rebekah’s imagination is then allowed to run and explore, creating endless unique and original paintings. The artwork will be exhibited throughout
the Hospice Orangery Café and Day Room and you will be free to walk around and admire the pieces as well as having the opportunity to meet Rebekah
herself. A complimentary afternoon cream tea will be provided to all guests attending. The event will conclude at 5.30pm. St Mary’s Hospice is committed
to supporting local artists in any field of work and this is the first of a series of exhibitions that will be held in the coming months. Rebekah’s
work will also be for sale at the exhibition and our Gift Shop in Dalton, in the form of pictures, prints and greeting cards Please contact Bob Qazi
at St Mary’s on 01229-580305 for any enquiries.
