What a night! Coniston 14 £5000 donation for St Mary’s and Pamela Kirkbride receives British Empire Medal award
We were delighted to be part of a fantastic evening in Coniston on 23rd June 2016.
As part of the evening Val Stangoe St Mary’s Hospice CEO accepted a cheque for an amazing £5,000 donated from the Coniston 14 event. Val shared the good
news that this will make a big impact by enabling St Mary’s Hospice to continue to roll out our Positive Living Groups in the Coniston area.
Caroline Glading has worked with our wonderful Coniston Support Group to encourage more people to access Positive Living groups. Caroline Glading: “St
Mary's is about caring for people in their local area: where there live. In piloting a new event - which shows our appreciation and ongoing support
for fundraising group - it provides an open door for local people to come and access our services, access our staff and volunteer supporters. So that
they can have and benefit from St Mary's services in their village.” £5,000 will enable us to reach more people with more care across our catchment
The evening was extra special as this was combined with Pamela Kirkbride’s presentation of her British Empire Medal by Lord Cavendish. Pam has received
the British Empire Medal for her services to the community in the Coniston area, for us Pam has been inspirational in her fundraising efforts and achievements
supporting St Mary’s Hospice. At the time when the award was announced Pam said that she couldn’t quite believe her nomination and felt really humbled
by those who voted for her. As part of the evening celebrations, a folder was presented containing many heartfelt letters of support for Pam’s award.
Mel Dixon. Community Fundraiser added: “It was an honour to be part of the evening, Pam has worked so hard with the fantastic Coniston Support Group and
community to continue to fundraise for St Mary’s. It is great news that Pam’s achievements have been recognised at the highest level. What a lovely
evening for Coniston, their community spirit shines through.”
