St Mary's Hospice @stmaryshospice
Thank you to the wonderful and thoughtful Furness Lions Ladies who have donated £540 to St Mary's Hospice. Furness Lions Ladies are a small group of ladies who have worked together for many years to raise money for local deserving causes.
On Thursday 15th December a group of ladies including Heather Jefferson called in to St Mary's with June Boyce, Beverly Ashley and Esme Dawson (Secretary) to present a cheque for £540. This has been allocated to buy 18 much needed chairs for the patients' rooms. They have fundraised through having a supper dance, Coffee mornings at the Coronation Hall and a tombola in the market. In a wonderful community effort they have also sent cheques for £500 each to the local branch of the Alzheimer's society, the Great North Air Ambulance and the British Heart Foundation.
Heather said: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank those members of the public who have supported us so loyally enabling us to make such presentations."
"Also we would like to express our appreciation to John Cook from the list Lisdoonie hotel for providing us with a room in which to hold our annual buffet dances which over the past 25 years or more have raised hundreds of pounds. Our thanks must also go to John Mario who has never failed to play music for dancing. Thank you both.
As our ages are increasing our numbers are decreasing and very reluctantly we are having to slow down, but we still hold coffee mornings in the Coronation Hall in Ulverston and have the occasional Tombola Stall in Barrow Market Hall, so hope to see you there."
Sarah Simpson, Marketing Cordinator at St Mary's Hospice added: "It was so lovely to meet you all and show you the difference these comfortable and high quality chairs will make. It really is a thoughtful donation and will be very much appreciated."
