Fundraising inspired by Joyce and Ted

Joyce and Ted inspired their family - the Leech family – to recreate a special journey and raise funds for our Hospice. On Saturday July 11 2015 the Leech family and close friends cycled over 100 miles from Ulverston to Salford. In memory of Ted making this journey to see Joyce whom he had met whilst she was evacuated during the second world war: “Their love blossomed and they went on to enjoy a 65 year marriage before their unfortunate passing within the space of 3 weeks of each other earlier this year...they just couldn't bear to be apart.”

The Leech family were hoping to raise an amazing £5,000, but thanks to the strength of their story and generous donations – coming in globally! They have raised £8,512. They and us want to thank everyone for the difference this makes to patients, carers and families. To give you an idea this could cover 1,024 patient meals, 53 Hospice at Home visits – enabling us to be there when people need support and care.

Carole (Joyce and Ted’s daughter said “We want to make sure everyone who donated was thanked. It’s been a long journey but fantastic. I am immensely proud.”
Ian (Joyce and Ted’s son): “The story and the event just spiralled the response has been brilliant.”
