Hospice Care Week Story - Karen
09-Oct-2017
Karen is Volunteer and Education Administrator at St Mary’s Hospice. Karen has been here for 18 months and thoroughly enjoys her roles supporting two hospice departments.
"I really enjoy the variety of my role. Education is really interesting, you get to work with and meeting external organisations and professionals that
use our facilities. I enjoy going the extra mile and as part of our Education days also like to bring some fun!
I love the recruitment side of volunteering as so many people come from many different avenues of life to bring many life skills, experience and their
time to the hospice. I have a lot of admiration for them as they don’t do this for any monetary reward.
Working here puts things in my personal life into perspective and I do react a lot more calmly to things. I do have a lot more appreciation for my loved
ones and I want to live life to the full! Work here is different to anywhere else as it is a lot more fulfilling, I go home genuinely feeling that
I am making difference by being proactive and always there to help. I have also had the opportunity to get involved in all sorts of things from Light
Up A Life, to driving a van for tree recycling and supporting on our Walk To Remember."
