Marathon Man – Phil

Phil Glennon from Coniston is inspirational: running the London Marathon and fundraising for St Mary’s Hospice via Phil shares his story …

I started running around 14 years ago, when I moved to the beautiful Lake District, and I needed get out and see the countryside that I am privileged to live in. I started to take running more seriously, and after a while, I decided to raise some money for our local hospice by running the annual village race aptly named the Coniston "14". I have now proudly taken part in 12 Coniston 14’s. And also a couple of years ago joined Ambleside running team, taking part in fell running. Running my own business is perfect for giving me the flexibility to get out and about when I can.

Working as the Sub Postmaster in Coniston for 11 years allowed me to get to know many local people and their families, across all ages. Sadly, many have lost loved ones to terminal illness, but without exception, those that have experienced the love and care that radiates around St Mary's Hospice in Ulverston, consistently marvel at the amazing work that this Charity does. It’s local, everyone can relate to St Mary’s and its role is vital and relevant to our village.

I decided to take part in the London Marathon on April 24th 2016 and fundraise for the Hospice while doing this to help motivate me even more! And hopefully enable me to achieve my first ever Marathon success.

Please support Phil our Marathon Man at:

We will share Phil’s progress and show the difference Phil’s fundraising efforts will make in providing care, comfort and support for patients, their carers and families.

Thank you for your help and good luck to Phil!
