St Mary's Hospice @stmaryshospice
On Saturday 11th March Sally-Ann Hunter from Lindal-in-Furness set herself the challenge of a sponsored head shave in aid of St Mary’s Hospice. Sally has done this on behalf of Nicola Irving and for family members who have received St Mary’s care and support. It was very much a family effort with Sally’s daughter Rhiannon Thatcher doing the shaving – Rhiannon is a hairdresser at Wit Woo, Walney.
Initially, Sally set a fundraising target of £200 ….
Sally said "This was for Nicola. I wanted to do something. It's very apt as Nicola was a hairdresser too. Also my mum and stepdad have used the hospice's services."
Before Sally bravely got ready for her new hair-do, she shared some beautiful words with her many family and friends who came up to our Orangery café to support her:
“Firstly, thank you all for coming to my charity sponsored head shave in aid of St Mary's Hospice. I'm going to leave here tonight with a lot less hair than I arrived with, BUT as we all know, family and friends leave here with a whole lot less.
The staff at St Mary's hospice do a fantastic job. Not only do they take great care of their patients in their last few weeks and days of their lives but they have a huge support network for families during and after their loved ones have passed away.
When I spoke to Jackie about doing the sponsored event, I said if I could raise £200 it's all for a good cause. Well the support and generosity has been amazing and the total promised so far is a fantastic £1,130. So a big thank you to all my family, friends, work colleagues at Chapel Street School and Satty's-faction Catering and the power of Facebook to help spread the word.
Jackie if I come up with another great idea just stop me… Please! After this we are going to the farmers in town for a liquid refreshment I know I'm ready for one everyone is more than welcome!
Well only two things left to say and that’s Ashley share that bucket and Rhiannon do your stuff!”
Rhiannon added she was very proud of her mum for doing this. Sally so far has now raised over an amazing £1,300! Thank you to everyone supporting Sally. This will make a huge difference to the care and comfort St Mary’s provides patients and their families.
