St Mary's Hospice @stmaryshospice
National Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK – and it’s taking place from the 1-12 June 2016. St Mary’s is keen to tie in to this national campaign at a local level by thanking the wonderful volunteers who enable the hospice to reach more people with more quality care.
According to the National Volunteers Website: “Over 21 million people volunteer in the UK at least once a year and this contributes an estimated £23.9bn to the UK economy. Behind these big numbers is a big contribution. These 21 million people are a shining example of how we can all make a big difference to individuals and communities every day from improving the environment we live in, spending time with those who may otherwise be lonely and contributing to a range of other essential services and support. We believe such a big contribution is worth a big celebration!”
Anne Atkinson, Volunteer & Community Engagement Lead: “National Volunteers’ Week is the ideal opportunity for us to thank our dedicated volunteers. Our volunteers work hard across so many of St Mary’s services and areas, and without them we simply couldn’t continue our work. We have created stories of thanks from staff members across the hospice to show our appreciation. Hopefully this will also inspire others to get involved and showcase the range of volunteering roles available. Your time makes a real difference to the care given to people with life-shortening illnesses, their families and carers.”
Throughout National Volunteers’ Week we will be sharing the thank you stories here and on our social media.
We are always actively recruiting volunteers and there are a number of opportunities available that require different skills and time commitment, all essential to helping St Mary’s Hospice deliver excellent care and support. These opportunities are available on our Volunteers page and you can find out more by speaking to St Mary’s Volunteer team on 01229 580305.
