St Mary's delighted to showcase pupils' artwork

St Mary’s has been delighted to host a fantastic set of local landscape pieces of art, created by three Ulverston Schools in our Orangery café at the hospice. The 2016 artspace project has involved the time, guidance and expertise of five professional artists: John Hall, Alex Blackmore, Lex Blakeway(Textiles), Pete Dent (Sound) and Fran Riley (Mixed media). John and Alex led workshops, working with Croftlands Junior School, Sir John Barrow Primary School and Church Walk Infants School. Using recyclables from the Ulverston Scrap Store they worked together “on a creative examination of their shared landscape.”

Diane McMillan, Assistant Head at Croftlands Junior School said: “It was absolutely fantastic! It was lovely for different age groups to work together on a collaborative project.”

John Hall – who has created a blog to follow all stages of the project added: “It’s been a great project. Many thanks to Friends of The Coronation Hall who have helped with the funding, the Arts Council and the Sir John Fisher Foundation.”

The pupils enthusiastically talked through each of the areas they worked on saying “It was really good fun” and “I like our school on it!” With Mia adding: “I didn’t know a lot about Ulverston places before I worked on it.”
