St Mary's Hospice Anniversary Recipe Book

17-Mar-2015

As part of its ongoing 25th anniversary celebrations, St Mary’s Hospice in Ulverston has created a very special recipe book, which is on sale in its shops priced at just £5.00 with all proceeds going to the charity.

The St Mary’s Hospice Forget-Me-Not Recipe Book features a wide selection of recipes from hospice chefs – many of which are served up daily in the charity’s Orangery Café – as well as some favourite dishes of keen amateur cooks including staff, volunteers and supporters of the hospice.

All of the 40 recipes are varied, original and use locally sourced ingredients wherever possible offering great quality and value for money. From volunteer Louise’s ‘What do I do with tofu?’ to Broughton Village Bakery instructing when to lick the bowl during the making of their Lemon Lush, there’s a dish for the most and least adventurous of cooks.

Val Stangoe, Chief Executive at St Mary’s Hospice and proud contributor of the intriguingly named Johansson’s Temptation, said: “We came up with the idea of a recipe book as people would often ask us for recipes of food served in our Orangery Café. But rather than just limiting it to our chefs to provide the recipes, we wanted to open it up to some of the people without whose constant support, we would not have been able to provide 25 years worth of help, support and care to local people.

“We hope lots of people will buy the book and, more importantly, will enjoy recreating some of the dishes – as I have - to share with family and friends in their own kitchens.”

Cumbria’s very own celebrity chef and one half of the Hairy Bikers, Dave Myers has penned the foreword to the recipe book. He said: “Being a Barrow lad, I have always been aware of St Mary’s Hospice and the fantastic work they do. So when I heard it was their 25th anniversary and they were putting together this book, I had no hesitation in getting involved. We are so lucky to have the hospice in our area – although we hope never to need their help.

“The recipes in this book epitomise the importance of time spent with our loved ones, so use this book to share wonderful food with the people you love, and give a thought to the good times that we take for granted. Bon appetite!”

As well as the recipe book, St Mary’s Hospice has more 25th anniversary merchandise available to buy including limited edition Forget-Me-Not candles and Forget-Me-Not bottled beer celebration packs. For more information, call 01229 580305
