Volunteer

Ways to volunteer

We are actively recruiting volunteers to assist in the following areas. There are a number of opportunities available that require different skills and time commitment and we would be delighted to hear from you. St Mary's values all aspects of support it receives from its volunteers.

St Mary's Shops

St Mary's runs charity shops in Barrow-in-Furness, Dalton, Ulverston, Grange-over-Sands and Bowness. These shops rely on volunteer staff. We are desperately seeking volunteers to help us in all of our retail outlets. Duties for the shops include serving behind the counters, sorting and pricing clothes, maintaining stock control and helping to create window displays.

Orangery Café

In April 2010, St Mary's opened the doors to its new café facility, The Orangery, which is set in beautiful gardens with picturesque views and peaceful surroundings. The café offers customers freshly prepared coffee, complemented by delicious cakes, and other light refreshments. The café relies on volunteer staff. If you are a friendly and motivated individual, who loves socialising, The Orangery is the perfect place for you. The café is open 7 days a week, and shifts are split from 10.30am - 1pm and 1pm - 3.30pm.

St Mary's Furniture Outlet

The St Mary's Furniture Outlet sells second hand furniture at competitive prices. We are actively recruiting volunteers to assist in the furniture outlet or to undertake pick-ups and deliveries. There are opportunities requiring a variety of skills and time commitments. The furniture outlet is open Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm and Saturday 9am - 1pm.

Drivers

We are looking for voluntary drivers in the Millom area to transport patients from Millom to the Hospice in Ulverston on Wednesday afternoons.
