Underbarrow Marrow Day Duck Race supports St Mary’s

A huge thank you to Underbarrow Marrow Day Committee for donating £1000, the proceeds of their annual Duck Race, held last Sunday 19th September, to St Mary’s Hospice.

The annual Marrow Day was cancelled for the last two years. The committee came up with the ingenious idea of filming the race from a duck’s eye perspective so ticket holders could enjoy the event remotely. Father and son team Edd and Dan Dobson designed a small boat to hold a webcam. They launched it down the beck along with the ducks. A family affair, the 1000 ducks were released over the starting line by father and son team Ricky and Stephen Carruthers.

The Marrow Day committee has raised over £300,000 for cancer charities in the 40 years it has been organising community fundraising events. The cheque for St Mary’s was presented by the honorary Marrow Day Committee Chair Maggie Kaye.
