Balloons to Remember

St Mary’s Hospice is inviting supporters to take part in a virtual Balloons to Remember race.
Mel Dixon, St Mary’s Hospice: “Covid-19 has regrettably meant the cancellation of our much loved ‘Walk to Remember’ event this year. We are aware that so many of you join us year on year to have the opportunity to remember and reflect the life of loved ones we hold dear. As a result, we wanted, and are delighted, to have discovered an alternative that although doesn’t replace our beloved Walk To Remember, we hope provides our loyal supporters with an opportunity to honour their loved ones in a thoughtful way, and support the work of St Mary’s during these uncertain times.”

The event selected as an alternative to the Walk To Remember will be in the format of a virtual balloon race: “Balloons to Remember!” Enabling St Mary’s supporters to personalise their own balloon with a message, along with a choice of colours and designs. The virtual race is 100% eco-friendly, no animals or birds are injured, it’s climate change friendly, and produces zero litter and respects any social distancing!

Mel says: “It’s a great way to make this personal and unique for your loved ones; family, friends, pets or simply just to honour and remember lives lost during the pandemic, while supporting the work and exceptional care of St Mary’s too. Let’s virtually fill the sky with love.”

Supporters can design their own special balloon for £5 via St Mary’s Hospice website www.stmaryshospice.org.uk and then follow the balloons across a digital sky on a journey shaped by real-world weather, geography and atmospheric conditions. The event starts at 12pm on Saturday 12th September 2020.

Mel adds: “It’s a fun and an affordable way for everyone to help raise funds to enable us to support even more patients and families so St Mary’s can be there and make a difference when it matters most.”

There are fabulous prizes available for the people whose balloons get furthest in the event: first prize is a Beautiful Bouquet from Floral and Hardy Ulverston, and second prize of a Delicious Afternoon Tea for Two in the Orangery Café at St Mary’s Hospice.

St Mary’s Hospice has continued to provide love, care and support in our local community during the pandemic with its range of services. There has been increased demand for its services, events like the Balloons to Remember can help raise vital funds to help meet this demand:

Jo, St Mary’s Hospice Nursing Team: “It’s an honour and a privilege to care for patients and their families, especially at this difficult time. By supporting Balloons to Remember YOU are directly helping our nursing team to continue to provide their vital work within our local community. So thank you.”
