Rotary Club Of Furness Amazing Success with Tour De Furness

We are delighted to share an update from the Rotary Club Of Furness. Nearly £30,000 was raised for charities by the riders taking part in the 2018 Tour de Furness. A presentation was made at Barrow Golf Club to the riders raising the most sponsorship. Over 300 riders took part in the ride which covered 4 rides of 5, 13, 23 and 50 miles. One of the riders did the 50 mile ride on a bike made out of bamboo – she had previously ridden the length of South America on the bike!

The winners of the Team prize and the Bill Bartlett Trophy was Barrow Rotary Wheelers who raised £1524. There were also trophies for the Juniors which was won by Will Morrow (£590) and for the Seniors which was won by Lee Drury (£937)

There was also a special acknowledgment for Will Morrow who has raised the most amount of money for 5 out of the 6 junior rides that he has done raising over £2,400.

Clare Tonkin Area Fundraiser says ‘St Mary’s Hospice have received almost £50,000 from the Rotary Club of Furness over the last few years, and we are delighted to be the main beneficiary of the Tour de Furness. This wonderful annual event is a brilliant opportunity for cyclists of every ability to admire our beautiful part of the country and support causes close to their heart, like St Mary’s. We are very grateful to the Rotary Club of Furness for their continued support and excited to see what this year’s event can achieve.’
