Spring Into Easter Coffee Morning

Emily Doyle age 12 of Dowdales’s secondary school and Olivia Doyle age 9 of Burlington C of E primary school Held a ‘Spring into Easter’ Coffee Morning on the 13th April 2019 at their local Grizebeck Community Hall, in aid of St Mary’s Hospice.


Emily and Olivia planned how they wanted the poster, what they wanted to do…  a cake stall, a raffle and something for children which ended up being an Easter colouring competition with 3 age groups and Easter eggs for prizes. They also wrote a letter to local businesses explaining what they were doing and asking if they would kindly donate a raffle prize. With an amazing response from all they approached they had a raffle of over 20 prizes!


Between them they began the big bake,  lots of cakes, muffins and biscuits to sell on the big day, with some support from family and friends to stock the stall.  They made colourful posters for each stall and Emily did the finishing touches with flowers for the tables from mum’s garden!


The day went really well, with Olivia manning the entrance, welcoming all who came in and Emily on the cake stall with help from family and friends to make the day run smoothly. There was such a lovely atmosphere in the room and the girls had no cake to take home!  They had decided on a target of £100 to raise, On the final count they had made £520. They were both amazed by the amount and would like to thank all who supported the event.


Olivia: “we did it because we wanted to raise money for St Mary Hospice”


Emily: “I wanted  to make a contribution to St Mary’s Hospice to help people who need support and care.”

They have put so much effort, time and support into making the Coffee Morning a fantastic success. Their mum Karen, family and friends and everyone here at the hospice is so proud! It’s a brilliant community effort and how lovely for local businesses to get involved too. £520 makes an incredible difference at St Mary’s. To give you an idea, this could fund 52 meals on our Inpatient Unit – where the chef and kitchen staff prepare a delicious meal for whatever our patients want. Well done Emily and Olivia for helping even more people to get the support and care they need.”
