Alyson Dickson

Alyson has over 25 years’ experience as a nurse and academic. She was born and went to school in Ulverston before studying to become a nurse at St Thomas’ Hospital in London. Subsequently Alyson completed specialist training in intensive care nursing and returned to live in Ulverston and work in the intensive care unit at Furness General Hospital. Alyson went on to complete her degree in Nursing with Education at the University of Huddersfield and became a nurse academic at University of Cumbria. She has a particular interest in professional and academic standards and was chair of the University’s Academic Quality and Standards Committee.

Since retiring from her role as Associate Dean at University of Cumbria in 2017, Alyson has volunteered as part of the Family Support Service at St Mary’s Hospice. She is a Trustee/Director for the Coronation Hall and Ulverston Community Enterprises. In her free time Alyson enjoys walking the family’s dogs and making pottery. She is a member and treasurer of Ulverston Potters Collective.
