Coronavirus (COVID-19): Guidance on visiting the Hospice

Coronavirus (COVID-19): Guidance on visiting the Hospice

This guidance applies to everyone connected to St Mary’s Hospice: working, volunteering, visiting or attending hospice services, including at the Living Centre in Barrow in Furness.

Whilst the risk to individuals remains low, we take the wellbeing of those using, or working or volunteering in the Hospice seriously and appreciate your support in following the current guidance.

Our service users represent a potentially vulnerable group of people. We will follow government guidelines when determining necessary steps. These are updated daily and will be monitored by the Hospice’s senior clinical team. The government guidelines are available at the links at the bottom of this page.

If you have returned from travel abroad in the past 14 days please use the links to the GOV.UK and NHS UK websites below to access the latest news, advice and guidance for travellers in relation to Coronavirus before visiting St Mary’s Hospice premises.

If anyone is concerned about their exposure to infection in any other circumstance they should contact 111 before attending the Hospice. 111 will advise whether they meet the threshold for testing, in which case they should not attend until the results of this are known.

If you are under the care of our Hospice at Home Team or are receiving other hospice services at home and any of the public information applies to you or a family member living with you then please notify us before we visit you.

If we are caring for a friend or relative and you are concerned, please call to discuss your situation, as government guidance is frequently changing.

Hand washing is the single most effective thing that everyone can do to limit the spread of infection.

The advice from NHS England is that you should wash your hands for the amount of time it takes to sing “Happy Birthday” twice (around 20 seconds). For more information on hand washing go to: www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-body/best-way-to-wash-your-hands/

If you have any further questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact the Hospice on: 01229 580305 and ask to speak to Jo Blake, Head of Clinical Care & Education, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner or Nurse in Charge.
