Who’s up all night for good fun? St Mary’s hopes to get lucky with virtual fundraising event!

Could you be a super hero family for one night? To ensure that our nurses are able to be a source of love and care 365 nights a year?

Families across South Cumbria are being challenged to make May 8th a night to remember — by joining in with a fund-raising event with a difference.

St Mary’s Hospice is hosting the online extravaganza, which will include live updates, competitions, fun activities and games, to mark international ‘stay-up all night’ night.

Events and Challenges Manager, Mel Dixon, said: “Loads of our fundraising events — like most things — have had to be cancelled over the past 12 months.

“So we’ve come up with something new that’s Covid-friendly, and drawn inspiration from our wonderful team of night-nurses. They’ve continued to work throughout Covid, visiting patients in their homes, taking the strain so that families can have some respite, and delivering a first class service. They do this 356 nights a year — and performed well over 400 ‘night sits’ between them during 2020.

“We think they are heroes, and if you do too, then we’re asking you to give up one night of your time, as a family, and join in with our event, which we’re calling Night 4 A Nurse.

The hospice is asking people across our community to ‘be a hero’ by staying awake for one night. Supporters will be asked to pay a £10 registration per home with all proceeds from Night 4 A Nurse going directly towards St Mary’s Hospice. Virtual entertainment and live updates will be broadcast throughout the evening and early hours on the hospice’s social media.

Mel explains: “Night 4 A Nurse is an event that you can enjoy from the comfort and safety of your own home, there’s no age limit, so the whole family can get involved! The focus is on fun and we’ve lots of activities to help you stay awake. Our local business community has generously got involved with some fantastic prizes and giveaways which we will be revealing on social media and on the night, with special thanks to our sponsors Ørsted, for making it all possible.”

We will share updates and activity through our social media channels. And encouraging supporters to join in using the hashtag #N4AN
