Neil’s Story

Having now worked for Stollers for over 45 years, I have always been proud to be employed by a company that has generously supported such a worthy cause and assisted in many of their fundraising activities.

I have known many families that have praised the team at St Mary’s for their help, when they have really needed it, but even I didn’t realise, as to how amazing they really are, until my family needed them.

Caring for our terminally ill Mum during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, was perhaps even more difficult than it would normally be, with all the restrictions that were in place for just routine hospital visits, healthcare professionals’ visits, day to day visitors, PPE for everyone, the list goes on.

Mum’s wishes were to be at home and with the terrific support via the hospice, this was made possible. I never knew that they offered night support, allowing Dad to get much needed rest, the hospice had one of their team stay overnight, keeping her eye on Mum and attending to her every need. Most importantly, being there for her at 4am in the morning when we sadly lost her. I’m really not sure how we would have coped knowing that nobody was with Mum when she left us.

My Son even commented that he assumed we had paid privately for the care given to us by the Hospice and couldn’t believe it when I said this came as standard and free of charge.

So now with personal experience of the care, compassion and 1st class professionalism that St Mary’s give to our community, there has never been a better time to support this wonderful charity.

Even at the darkest of times, the team can manage to bring a smile to your face when you think this would not be possible, a true gift!
