Walk to Remember: Everything You Need to Know for Tomorrow Night

Can you believe it? Tomorrow 1,250 of us will be setting off together for a night to remember — that’s even more than last year! It looks like word has spread that we know how to throw a pretty unforgettable party-on-foot as we come together to remember our loved ones. 💜

And the best part? We’ve had a quiet word with the weather gods. The BBC promises “warm and dry with a light breeze” — which, for Cumbria, basically counts as a heatwave of the century. Still… this is Cumbria, so maybe keep those waterproofs handy (just in case).

Before you lace up those trainers for the biggest Walk to Remember in our history, here’s your go-to guide so you can focus on celebrating, remembering, and enjoying the atmosphere.

Before the Event

Boost your fundraising page

  • Aim for at least £35 sponsorship.
  • Haven’t started? Create a JustGiving page — it’s quick and easy.
  • Already set up? Give it another push on social media or WhatsApp. Even £1 from every friend adds up fast.
  • Don’t forget to swing by our selfie station! Snap a photo, share it with your fundraising link, and watch the support roll in.
  • For every £100 raised, you’ll bag an entry into our floral prize draw. More donations = more chances to win.

Pack your essentials

  • Comfy walking shoes (trust us, blisters are not a vibe).
  • A torch or headlight.
  • A warm layer (this is the UK, after all).
  • A water bottle.
  • Cash/card for food stalls, glitter, and glowing merch.
  • And please, do not leave bags, children, dogs, or husbands unattended!

If bringing your dog

  • Keep them on a short lead (max. 2m).
  • If your dog isn’t a fan of crowds, maybe let them sit this one out.
  • Don’t forget the poop bags!

On the Day

Where to be: Ulverston Leisure Centre (LA12 9HT)

  • Registration opens: 6:00 PM
  • Registration closes: 7:15 PM (don’t be that person running in late).
  • Walk starts: 8:00 PM sharp

Check in at your registration desk (alphabetical by surname). You’ll get your t-shirt if you haven’t already. Only one person per team needs to check everyone in — and no need to bring tickets.

Pre-Walk Entertainment

  • Live music from 6:00 PM.
  • Special performance by the St Mary’s Hospice Choir.
  • Food & drinks from Cloud Nine Kitchen, Love Pizza, Clementine & Willow Kitchen, and Coffee D’Ash Uk.
  • Picnic benches are available, but please leave them free for people who are actually eating (no bench hogging!).

Parking

  • No parking at the Leisure Centre (unless you fancy staying overnight).
  • Use Priory Road for general parking.
  • 5-mile walkers: park or arrange collection from Charnley’s, Dalton (left-hand section only). Marshals will help with crossings.
  • Please don’t park or arrange pick-ups at Our Lady’s School, Dalton.

During the Walk

  • Always follow marshal instructions (yes, they’re bossy — because they care!).
  • Stay behind the fire engine escort at the start.
  • Keep to the pace behind the front walkers.
  • Take extra care on Abbey Rd & Park Drive — tree roots can be tricky.
  • Rest stops available at Dalton, Abbey Rd, and the Finish.
  • Keep on pavements at all times — no stepping onto the road.
  • Bring a light (head torch, handheld, or phone light).
  • Don’t miss the remembrance stop at Our Lady’s School, Dalton.

Finish Line

Expected arrival at Furness Academy (LA13 9BB): around midnight (varies per walker). You’ll be greeted with cheers, medals, and that unbeatable feeling of walking for a great cause.

Last year, together we raised £145,000. This year, let’s smash that record!

See you tomorrow for a night of laughter, memories, and celebration. 💜
