A few weeks ago, pupils in Years 3 and 4 at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Primary School took part in a meaningful and engaging workshop to develop their understanding of dementia, exploring what it means for those living with the condition and the impact it can have on families and loved ones. The sessions encouraged empathy, awareness and open conversation, helping the children to better understand how small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
We are delighted to share that Our Lady of the Rosary has been officially recognised as the first ‘Dementia Chums School’. To celebrate this special achievement, a group of pupils visited St Mary’s Hospice to proudly accept the award on behalf of the whole school community.
During their visit, the children spent time with people living with dementia, and we could not be prouder of the way they conducted themselves. They approached every interaction with compassion, sensitivity and genuine warmth, taking time to talk, listen, play games and share moments of laughter. Their kindness brought comfort and happiness to those they met, creating a truly uplifting experience for everyone involved.
This recognition reflects not only the children’s enthusiasm and willingness to learn, but also the school’s ongoing commitment to nurturing caring, respectful and socially aware young people.
St Mary’s Hospice is proud to continue building its relationship with Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Primary School and looks forward to working together on future initiatives that support people living with dementia and their families within the wider community.
