Admiral Nurse Dementia Service

Admiral Nurses are highly trained dementia specialists, supported by the Dementia UK charity. Dementia nurses provide support for those living with dementia and their families. They provide expert clinical advice as well as emotional, psychological, and social support.

Dementia Nurses have extensive knowledge that means they are able to help families with the most complex challenges, ensuring all patients have the best quality of life.

  • Providing stress management strategies and coping techniques to ease emotional strain.
  • Supporting the entire family, equipping carers with the knowledge and skills they need.
  • Coordinating care by working closely with health and social care professionals.

Admiral Nurses take a palliative approach, understanding that dementia is a life-limiting condition. Their goal is to enhance quality of life—helping individuals and families live well and, when the time comes, die with dignity and support.

This service is available to individuals and families already receiving care through St Mary’s Hospice. If you have complex needs, our team will guide you through the referral process if you meet the eligibility criteria. However, support and advice are available to anyone affected by dementia.

For more information, call 01229 444407 or email admiraldementiateam@stmaryshospice.org.uk.

Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 9 am – 5 pm (closed on bank holidays).

For urgent queries outside these hours, contact the Dementia UK helpline at 0800 888 6678.

This service is here to support you every step of the way.

If you are a person living with dementia or caring for someone living with who you think would benefit from joining one of our groups, then complete the referral form found here, ask your healthcare professional or call 01229 444407
