Over 1,200 walkers join us for 2026 Walk to Remember

What a night! More than 1,200 people came together for Walk to Remember 2026 on Friday 4th September, walking through the night to remember loved ones and raise vital funds for St Mary’s.

The annual event, that is generously supported by Ørsted, brought together hundreds of families, friends and supporters for an evening of remembrance, reflection and community spirit. Participants took on the 10-mile route from Ulverston to Barrow, while a shorter five-mile route from Ulverston to Dalton offered another way for people to take part.

Despite challenging September winds, the determination and spirit of the walkers remained strong throughout the evening, with people walking side by side to remember those they have loved and lost.

Mel Dixon, Events and Challenges Manager at St Mary’s Hospice, said: “Walk to Remember is such a special event for our community, and seeing more than 1,200 people come together this year was incredibly moving.

“There was an amazing sense of togetherness throughout the evening. We saw people sharing stories, remembering loved ones and supporting each other, and despite the strong winds, everyone continued to walk side by side. It really showed the strength and spirit of our community.

“We’re incredibly grateful to every person who took part, volunteered, donated or supported someone taking part.”

Walk to Remember not only gives local people the opportunity to come together in remembrance, but also raises vital funds to support the work of St Mary’s Hospice. The final total raised will be revealed later this year.

The hospice provides specialist care and support to local people living with life-shortening illnesses, as well as their families, loved ones and carers. Fundraising events such as Walk to Remember help St Mary’s Hospice continue providing this vital care and support across the local community.

And there’s no time to rest, with registration for Walk to Remember 2027 now officially open. We hope you can join us next year.
