Hilary Crowe

Trustee

After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, Hilary returned to academia in her 40s and pursued a successful career in higher education, culminating in her role as Director at the University of Cumbria. She retired from full-time work in 2015 to care for her husband, Brian, who had been diagnosed at the age of 47 with Fabry Disease—a rare, progressive, and inherited condition. Brian passed away in 2022, having received exceptional care from Trinity Hospice in London, the same hospice that also supported her mother in her final days the following year.

With renewed time and energy, she now chairs the Health Research Authority Research Ethics Committee in the North West and is honoured to serve as a Trustee at St Mary’s. She is a passionate advocate for accessible, high-quality palliative care for all, and believes that hospices play a vital role in ensuring dignity and support at the end of life.
