Dementia Service enjoys a day out in the Lake District

People attending St Mary’s Hospice Dementia Service recently enjoyed a memorable day out to the Lake District, following feedback that they would like more opportunities to enjoy days away together.

The group travelled to Windermere, where they enjoyed a cruise on the lake before tucking into pizza by the lakeside. Members of St Mary’s Hospice Poetry Group also joined the trip, making it a wonderful day of friendship, laughter and shared memories.

The Lake District was chosen by the people who attend the Dementia Service after they were offered four different day-trip options. Listening to what matters to people and responding to their wishes is an important part of St Mary’s approach to person-centred care.

For some people living with dementia, experiences such as a day trip can be difficult to access without additional support, particularly for those living alone or with limited access to transport. The trip provided an opportunity to enjoy a special day out in a safe, supportive and sociable environment.

One attendee summed up the day by saying: “Congratulations on making our day out on Windermere so enjoyable.”
