New bathroom refurbishment for the hospice thanks to the Morrisons Foundation and BAE Systems

St Mary’s Hospice is delighted to have received a grant of £21,819 from the Morrisons Foundation to invest in the refurbishment of its patient bathroom. And from BAE Systems through their Give as You Earn scheme contributing £2,600. Thanks to funds generously donated, the Hospice has been able to transform the tired bathroom into a wellbeing spa, providing a welcoming space to relax and bathe . This has been achieved through careful planning to install a new bath, replacement hoist, décor and lighting, all of which help increase dignity and comfort, providing exceptional care to patients with life-limiting conditions. BAE System’s contribution supported purchasing the hoist chair, which is integral to the comfort and usage of the bath.

Jo Blake, recently retired Head of Clinical helped to officially open the new refurbishment: “Patients benefit from having a bath in so many ways. Previously the room felt too clinical, and we had the opportunity to do something different. We are just so so grateful to the Morrisons Foundation for funding enabling us to create a bath/spa experience.”

Katy Millard, Health & Safety and Facilities Manager: “This enables patients who may not be able to have a bath at home enjoy the experience again.”

Hospice UK commented: “This is just one example of essential equipment that makes a monumental difference to the comfort and needs of those accessing end of life care and their loved ones, who know that those they love have access to the best care.”

The new bath allows patients to have a relaxing spa experience,

to choose from different bathing positions, and even has its own lighting and sound too! With tranquil décor, featuring a photo taken by one of the hospice doctors.
