St Mary’s Hospice joins Pennies scheme at Booths Ulverston

Shoppers at Booths Ulverston can now support St Mary’s Hospice in a simple way, thanks to a new partnership with the Pennies digital donation scheme.

We are delighted to be part of the Pennies scheme at Booths Ulverston, giving customers the opportunity to make a small donation when paying by card or digital wallet.

At the checkout, shoppers can choose to add a few pence to their purchase, helping us continue providing specialist care and support to patients and families impacted by life-limiting illness across Furness and South Lakes.

To mark the launch, members of St Mary’s nursing team – Jill Park, Raven Caulfield and Paula Mullen – visited Booths Ulverston to meet Store Manager Andrew Allison and the Booths team, celebrating the partnership and thanking them for their continued support.

The Pennies scheme provides a simple way for people to continue supporting charities at a time when fewer people carry cash. Instead of traditional collection tins, customers can donate digitally alongside their everyday purchases, with small donations adding up to make a significant difference.

The impact of the scheme has already been felt, with Booths customers raising more than £20,000 for St Mary’s Hospice during 2024 through Pennies donations.

These donations help St Mary’s provide vital services for people living with life-limiting illnesses, as well as support for their families and loved ones. The hospice provides care free of charge, relying on the generosity of the local community to continue its work.

Esmie Pllana, St Mary’s Corporate Partnerships Manager, said: “We’re delighted to be part of the Pennies scheme and to be working with such a respected and well-known business as Booths Ulverston once again. We’re incredibly grateful to every customer who chooses to support St Mary’s by adding a few pennies to their next shop.

“You can be safe in the knowledge that every donation stays right here in our local community, helping us continue providing care and support for patients and families when they need us most.

“Every penny really does count. Those small donations quickly add up and make a huge difference to the compassionate, specialist care we provide.”
