Light Up a Life

Lights will shine brightly for loved ones no longer with us at a special ceremony hosted by St Mary’s Hospice in venues across our community, every December. Light Up A Life is one of the most well-loved, meaningful and poignant events in the St Mary’s Hospice calendar and is a chance for supporters to remember a loved one at a traditionally reflective time of the year.

St Mary’s is delighted to host its Light Up A Life events in Cartmel, Ulverston Barrow-in-Furness and for the first time we will be hosting a service in Ambleside. This unique celebration is a special time for family and friends to come together and remember those we love, who sadly are no longer with us.

The event will feature thoughtful readings, beautiful music and an opportunity to remember that special someone with a candlelight reflection. With a specially lit tree, filled with messages for and inspired by loved ones. Light Up A Life is a special service that is open to everyone, not just those who have lost someone they love in the hospice.

In return for a donation we will…

  • Dedicate a light to your loved one (s) at each of our services, your light will shine brightly all throughout the festive period on our beautiful tree in reception at the hospice.
  • Record the name of your loved one (s) in our online memorial book. ( Link below will be active from Tuesday 17th December)
  • Your loved ones name will appear in our Order of Service at each Light up a Life ceremony ( Details can be found below)
  • Place your personalised star on our beautiful tree here at the hospice.

A message from us all at St Mary’s Hospice…

“St Mary’s is more than just a building, it’s a belief. A belief in treating everyone with dignity, with respect and the understanding that behind every individual is a story. A story that matters. To work alongside our families is both a privilege and an honour” – Lauren McKenny Junior Sister.

These donations will allow us to continue to light up the lives of our patients and their families at what can be one of the most difficult times of the year. Thank you for your support.
