Ørsted’s ‘Love your Home’ ethos is put into full force for St Mary’s Hospice

St Mary’s Hospice has teamed up with Ørsted, the global leader in offshore wind, to roll out fundraising activities to mark the hospice’s 30th anniversary.

As the official sponsor of this milestone year, Ørsted will support a series of events over the coming year, including the Walk to Remember on July 6th and their first ever Helvellyn at Night on the 22nd June both of which  aims to bring the community together to raise much needed funding for St Mary’s

The Hospice provides free care and support for patients, their families and carers within the hospice, at home or in a community setting. Though St Mary’s care and services are free of charge to the community, they are not free to provide, which is why local support for the 30th anniversary fundraising events is vital.

Helen Carlson, Head of Fundraising at St Mary’s Hospice, said: “St Mary’s are at a crossroads, we know we are helping more people than ever before, but we also know there are others out there whom we are not reaching.   The reality is that we need £3.2 million every year, that’s just under £9000 a day to keep our doors open to those who need us most.  Ørsted sets a precedent for how a large company can integrate within a local community and make a very real difference, not just economically but socially. Having the support of Ørsted allows us to engage with new audiences in new ways to help ensure we are raising the funds we need to help our community.”

Steve Clarke, Chairman for Ørsted Barrow Area Committee, said: “We are very proud to be sponsoring St Mary’s Hospice in their 30th Anniversary Year, St. Mary’s continues to provide much needed care and support for a great many people in the community. We hope that this year proves to be even more successful in raising vital funds to allow them to continue their great work.”

Notes to the Editor

St Mary’s Hospice provides free comfort and care for people with life –shortening conditions and support for their families, either at the Hospice or at home.  We support people from the moment of diagnosis and their families for longer. Though all our care and services are free of charge to our community, they are not free to provide and that’s where we rely on your help. It costs over £3.2m per year to run St Mary’s Hospice and our services. Less than 18% of our funding is provided by the NHS, meaning that we rely on donations and fundraising to cover the rest. This is only possible through the support of our wonderful and generous community.
